10. Chapeau "96 Degrees in the Shade" au crochet : Un tricorne aux notes de reggae pour l'été

Hello knitters and cheer up!
Given the insane heat this June, I felt like I was in the Caribbean... so I took the opportunity to make myself a tricorn hat.
So I present to you “96 degrees in the shade”.

I haven't always liked reggae, quite the opposite. When I was a kid, my little darling mom listened to Bob Marley and I would curse in my corner, because I found it too soft. In the meantime I discovered The Police and especially Sublime and my opinion, which was initially very clear, has softened: I often include a little reggae in my rock music now!
This pattern was supposed to be a sun hat, like a floppy hat, but fate decided otherwise. As with reggae, I know how to be flexible when the universe shows me my error.
During a conversation with a very friendly colleague, as charismatic as she is multilingual (hello Annick!), I remembered that the word "ombre" in English could be designated by the word "shadow" but also by the word "shade". And that was all it took to make me want to listen again to this reggae classic released in 1977.

The title "96 Degrees in the Shade" refers to a hot day in 1865 when Deacon Paul Bogle was executed for instigating the Morant Bay Rebellion in Jamaica.
Even though slavery had been officially abolished, living conditions for black people in Jamaica remained extremely miserable.
Following a protest movement led by Paul Bogle, the then governor decided to deploy his troops, resulting in 400 Jamaican casualties. More than 300 additional people were arrested and executed without trial, including Paul. These last words, included in the song, were prophetic: "Today I stand here a victim, the truth is I'll never die."
Even though I stand today as a victim, the truth is that I would never die.
With this song, the reggae group Third World pays tribute to this Jamaican hero who, through his sacrifice, changed the destiny of millions of his compatriots.

My assistant and model Murray is always first in line for fittings, as you know!
This pattern will be perfect for all types of woolly pirates, whether you're a cabin boy or Captain Hook.
3 particular techniques will be used here:
-the slip stitch,
- the tight mesh,
- the tight increase,

[6 sections of 58 sc/348 single crochets]
Starting at the marker that marks the junction between the cap and the edge, crochet slip stitches into each of the single crochets, passing on either side of the edge.
The hat being crocheted in a spiral, continue the slip stitches until you reach the end of the edge, this operation is a little laborious but it allows you to stiffen the edge of the hat in starch or wire.
Once the hat is finished, soak and lay it flat to dry. Using your hands, gently pull the brim to shape and round it. If there are any ripples, you can lightly iron the brim to flatten it.
Fold three sides to form an equilateral triangle with the markers, pin the edges to the cap 8 cm from the middle, then sew each of the three sides with a thread, to form an X.
