Hello, knitters, and raise the anchor!
Today I'm offering you a supercharged article with a new pattern that smells of rock 'n' roll, applesauce, and cherry clafoutis...
What do you say we go to the market with the adorable Tutti Frutti market bag?
The "Tutti Frutti" Market Bag: Inspired Design and Unique History
I don't know about you, but I'm crazy about fruit: I love them all, from watermelon to blackberry, to banana and kiwi—they're like nature's candy. Of course, I enjoy them all year round, but what a pleasure, as the warmer weather arrives, to stock up on sun-ripened fruits like melon and peaches...
Tutti Frutti was born from a mix of family discussions, with my aunt, who loves market bags, with my big brother, who taught me that the word "frutti" was in fashion with teens, and with my niece who, like me, is passionate about crochet! I discovered rock 'n' roll with the album Jive Rabbit in 1989 when I was 4 years old. The energy and carefree nature of this music instantly appealed to me. Nearly 30 years before suggesting I create my own yarn shop, my brother posed with this record, one of the cornerstones of my life.
The origin of the term "Fruity" or "Frutti" comes from Polari, an English argot used by marginalized communities in the 19th century and was used to describe a man who loves men. Homosexuality was heavily repressed at the time, and one had to use cunning to speak freely. While you can hear Little Richard talking about a certain Daisy when listening to the title track Tutti Frutti, recorded in 1955, this in no way reflects the first version initially played on stage, which spoke very crudely of a "fruity" man in the Polari sense of the term.
Fascinated by fruit, rock, and linguistics, it didn't take more for my new creation to bear a name that is both deliciously familiar and incredibly mysterious...
My assistant and model, Murray, is never the last to be a clown, as you know!
