Why is this wool called baby alpaka? “Baby” is a category that defines the fineness and quality of the fiber, ranging from rare and expensive royal alpaca (19 microns) to normal alpaca (around 40 microns) through super fine alpaca (27 microns) to baby alpaca (22 microns).
This fiber has qualities similar to cashmere. It has nothing to do with the age of the alpacas. Alpaca yarn is ideal for all seasons: in addition to its insulating properties, it doesn't itch and can be worn next to the skin.Containing no lanolin, it's also hypoallergenic.
